Trango, otherwise known as "Trangor," "Trangsie poops," "Trangor the terrible," or as Paul likes to think, "Trango
the Great" (yeah, right!), and more commonly known as "that little bastard," is the alpha-animal. This means he
bosses around everyone who sets foot on the boat, including our crew.
Trango would have been an apt pet for Napoleon or maybe Catherine the Great, but somehow he got stuck living
a mediocre life with us. Every day he becomes grouchier just thinking about his loss. He loves to run up to strangers
in nice clothes and pee on them. This is often very embarrassing, and needless to say, we have lost a lot of
potential friends because of this adorable habit of his.
In spite of himself, Trango seems to enjoy life aboard, or perhaps he just enjoys tormenting all of us in such a
small space. We have never had to make any special adjustments to the boat for either of our dogs, and though
Trango doesn't possess the agility of our other dog, he seems to get around just fine. Occasionally he will have a nasty
spill attempting his daily jump up the companionway stairs, but has never been hurt and usually just sulks away
angry and embarrassed.
Trango is usually loved by everyone who meets him. Of course they are normally cured of this temporary affliction after
a few days in close quarters with him. He tends to have habits that people find particularly unforgivable on a boat. For
instance, being a Malamute he tends to shed quite heavily. Well, perhaps that is a bit of an understatement. Trango
sheds enough hair everyday to fill a 50 gallon drum. He is also pushy, and usually reserves the best sitting spots
for himself. Trango also takes great pride in his ability to steal the food from your fork just before
it hits your mouth. He always waits cunningly next to you until you spear a particularly delightful morsel
for him to steal. We have lost a number of delectable treats, including whole t-bone steaks, Christmas candy,
and a giant square of brie to his sneaky tongue. He does, however, often refuse to eat dog food, feeling that
this is below his status.
Although he has his downside, Trango is quite possibly the world's cutest dog, and always poses
for the camera. He also likes to chase things that aren't there and stare at his reflection in the window. The only
one who could loves Trango more than we do is, of course, Trango! We love
him so much all his silliness is quite bearable, and we wouldn't trade him for the world.
