Maintaining a boat is a constant process. Things break all the time, and
if you cannot learn to accept that, you will never survive life on a sailboat. We have had our engine
not start, our batteries not function, our refrigerator bite the dust, our transmission stop working, and
a number of other "adventures." The key is to either be independently wealthy, or have the motivation and know-how
to fix things yourself.
Paul, being an engineer, does most of the repairs on board. If you look to the left, you will see a picture
of Paul fixing our electric water-pump when we were halfway across the Gulf of Alaska. He was really
sea-sick at the time, and wasn't too happy to fix it, but it was sure nice not having to use our manual
pumps.
Saesha maintains (or should we say, maintained) most of the teak, as well as
do the majority of cleaning. All in all we both try to do our fair share of chores, even
if they are different chores. We are well aware that this is a very traditional division of labor, but we have come to accept that.
Besides, Saesha doesn't like being dirty! Humph! Below you will find our current list of ongoing as well as one-time projects. We will add more sections as we go, so be patient and maybe we can answer your boat question!
